Nowadays, businesses face many challenges. Changes in the economy are not one-off; change of state of the company from going bankrupt to financially healthy and vice versa is a gradual process. This process is dynamic and influenced by many macroeconomic and microeconomic factors. Therefore, the knowledge of the overall process of changing in the financial situation has a crucial influence on corporate decision-making. The paper focuses on the description of different forms of financial distress as well as the analysis and description of corporate failure as an integral, continuous process in three dimensions.

“…Digitalisierung, Globalisierung, COVID-19, der Klimawandel und eine stetige Humanisierung der Arbeitswelt – um nur einige Gründe zu nennen – führen zu stetig wachsenden Veränderungsnotwendigkeiten, weshalb eine 30 %ige Erfolgsquote ernüchternd erscheint. Darüber hinaus konnten Kraus und Haghani ( 2004 ) in einer Studie zeigen, dass die meisten CM-Projekte erst bei beginnenden Umsatz- oder Gewinneinbrüchen gestartet werden und Veränderung häufig erst als letzte Option angesehen wird. Bei einem solchen Vorgehen sind die Handlungsspielräume allerdings so begrenzt, dass eine erfolgreiche Veränderung zumeist ausbleibt.…”

Change-Manager:innen haben eine 70 %ige Chance, dass die von ihnen geplanten und umzusetzenden Veränderungsvorhaben scheitern. Das damit einhergehende Frustrations- und Resignationspotenzial ist Ausgangspunkt dieses Beitrages der Zeitschrift Gruppe. Interaktion. Organisation. (GIO). Dem entgegen wirkend wird, in Anlehnung an die Philosophie von Albert Camus, eine neue Haltung für Change-Manager:innen des 21. Jahrhunderts entwickelt. Um darüber hinaus ihr Navigations- und Handlungsrepertoire zu erweitern, soll eine neue, prozessorientierte Betrachtungsweise erarbeitet werden, die unter anderem „Nicht-So-Zustände“ statt „Soll-Zustände“ und Empörung als gemeinschaftsstiftender Motivator beinhaltet.
