With the Covid-19 pandemic process, educational activities all over the world faced a great challenge. This epidemic, which has a very high risk of transmission, prevented students from taking lessons in the classroom, created social distances and made distance education compulsory. While distance education offers a solution to prevent interruption of educational activities during the pandemic process, on the other hand, it requires teachers and students to adapt to new learning roles through information technologies in order to be successful. However, the adequacy or success of the distance education process is also discussed. The views of the educator (academician) using distance education on this subject are very important. This research is important in terms of reflecting the views of academics. Within the scope of the research, the views of academicians at a state university in the Eastern Anatolia Region on distance education were examined. An online questionnaire was sent to all academicians at this university and evaluations were made over 93 academics who returned to the questionnaires. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 25 package program. As a result of the data obtained, it was seen that the academicians had both positive and negative opinions about distance education. In particular, female academics' opinions on distance education are more positive. However, factors such as age, experience, and title did not affect views on distance education. Again, most of the academicians do not find distance education alone sufficient but think that it will be much more effective when reinforced with formal education.

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic in the world, all institutions of the society have been severely affected. Some of the consequences of this crisis had both positive and negative effects on certain areas. Among these, education is the one that will have the greatest impact on the future. This paper attempted to determine the perspectives of English language teaching student teachers and their instructors on distance education during COVID-19 pandemic. The participants of the study were 40 senior students from the English Language Teaching department and their 4 instructors from a Turkish state university. Both qualitative and quantitative research models were used in this study. Descriptive analysis was used for qualitative data whereas statistical procedure was applied for quantitative data. A questionnaire and semi-structured interview forms were employed as data collection instruments. The results revealed that student teachers and their instructors have both positive and negative opinions about distance English language teaching education during COVID-19 pandemic. One of the most frequently stated problems with distance education refers to student teachers' experiences of teaching practicum, whereas they had no difficulty in theoretical courses. The positive opinions are regarding time-space flexibility, reviewing lessons by recordings, self-paced learning, affordability, comfort, sharing a wide range of resources, instant feedback, whereas negative opinions are about technical problems, applied courses, lack of social interaction, assessment and evaluation, workload, health problems and low motivation. It is suggested that distance education training for both student teachers and instructors will be useful for future experiences.

ÖzetCovid-19 Salgını sonrası geçen yaklaşık bir yıllık süre içinde çevrimiçi eğitim uygulamaları acil durum çözümlerinden uygulanabilir çözümlere doğru bir gelişim göstermiştir. Bu da Yamamoto ve Altun'un, 2020 makalesinde öne sürdükleri çevrimiçi öğrenmenin önlenemeyen yükselişinin göstergesi olarak değerlendirilebilir. Bu geçişten elde edilen deneyim; hükümet yetkilileri, eğitim kurumlarının yöneticileri, eğitimciler, veliler ve öğrencilerin dahil olduğu tüm paydaşları olumlu/olumsuz yönleriyle etkilemiş ve çevrimiçi eğitim uygulamalarının gelişmesi ve uygulamaların titizlikle ele alınması gerektiği konusunda daha belirgin bir tabloyu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı; dünyada ve Türkiye'de Covid-19 pandemisinin çevrimiçi eğitime etkisini ele almak ve pandemi sonrasında gerçekleştirilen çevrimiçi öğrenme konularını ele alan kaynak ve örneklerin incelenmesi, karşılaştırılması, bu dönemde yapılmış akademik araştırmaların değerlendirilmesidir. Bu çerçevede yaşanan sorunları ve eksiklikleri ortaya çıkararak uzaktan eğitimin geleceğine ışık tutacak bir tartışmanın ve geliştirme önerilerinin sunulmasıdır. Araştırmada, doküman inceleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Literatür taramasından elde edilen bulgulara göre değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır.
