“…However, gender, GPA, and the number of credit-hours completed were found to affect none of the five internship impact areas. Our finding of no effect of gender is consistent with the findings of Brush (2013), Luecking and Fabian (2000), Hergert (2009), andGault et al (2000); and is inconsistent with the findings of Ju et al (1998), Raelin et al (2007), Farazmand (2012), andJackel (2011). In addition, our finding of no effect of GPA and credit-hours is consistent with the findings of Hayes (1981), Gault et al (2000), and Casado (1991); and inconsistent with the findings of Hergert (2009Hergert ( , 2011, Gault et al (2000), and Beard and Morton (1999).…”

“…In the study by Emenheiser et al (1997), a majority of respondents were satisfied with their internship, and stated that it strengthened their problem-solving ability in the hospitality industry. However, contradicting results were found in the study by Ju et al (1999) in which Korean students rated relatively low in the satisfaction level regarding hotel internship experience, and two-thirds of respondents did not expect to be offered a job after internship. Nevertheless, agreement levels increased with length of prior experience and higher marketability and enhanced professional skills.…”

“…Internships are a common feature in tourism and hospitality programs, and research has tracked the attitudes of students (e.g., Busby, 2005;Cho, 2006;Ju, Emenheiser, Clayton, Sue, & Reynolds, 1998;Lam & Ching, 2007;Walo, 2001;Waryszak, 1997), industry (Harris & Zhao, 2004;Lee, Lu, Jiao, & Yeh, 2006), and multiple stakeholders (Beggs, Ross, & Goodwin, 2008;Collins, 2002;Moscardo & Pearce, 2007;Zopiatis, 2007).…”
