“…However, there are some that are worth mentioning their limitations. Most of the studies that have been conducted previously do not use a validated questionnaire to assess KAP [10,[11][12][13][14] and the main focus of those studies was women who were already suffering from osteoporosis [15]. It must be noticeable that those who are already suffering from a disease or under treatment of a particular disease would have better knowledge of disease as they are in direct contact with health care professionals.…”

“…A few studies were conducted on both elderly men and women but in most cases sample size was not adequate [13,16,17]. Very few studies have been conducted on adolescence females [10,[12][13][14], and even fewer studies evaluated KAP regarding osteoporosis in both genders at adolescence [18].One of the biggest flaws of a majority of the studies was absence of scoring system. As KAP studies are conducted to evaluate knowledge level, varying attitudes and practices towards a disease, it is important to conclude where the study population stands in terms of knowledge or how good or bad knowledge or practices were as it would help to design specific interventional strategies for that particular population.…”

“…Majority of research examining calcium intake and PA with respect to osteoporosis knowledge and beliefs, and as preventative behaviours have been investigated in post menopausal women (Tudor-Locke & McColl, 2000). A few researchers have examined these criteria in younger women (Kasper et al, 1994(Kasper et al, , 2001Wallace, 2002), let alone in adolescents (Anderson et al, 2005;Schrader et al, 2005). A lack of knowledge about osteoporosis risk factors (insufficient calcium intake and daily PA), as well as perceptions of low risk for developing osteoporosis, has been reported among college women (Kasper et al, 2001) and adolescent females (Anderson et al, 2005).…”

“…8 The results of Kassper's et al in Western University of USA research also showed that women are not aware of the danger of osteoporosis and the beneficial effects of exercise. [4][5][6][7][8][9] In this study, we looked at the level of awareness about osteoporosis among Medical Sciences, Payam-e-Noor and Azad universities students in Khalkhal city, Iran.…”
