“…In patients with cardiac stent re-stenosis, Scheller et al 29 demonstrated that drug-coated balloon catheters, which release most of the drug within the first minute, prevent neointimal proliferation and restenosis after a follow-up of 12 months. In patients with coronary heart disease, Sgueglia et al 30 have recently shown prevention from neointimal hyperplasia up to 12 months after single-shot paclitaxel application by second-generation drug-eluting balloon catheters in patients with coronary bifurcation lesions. Accordingly, we show that despite the rapid diffusion of the coated steroid hormones within 1 day, there is a strong correlation between the extent of the initial inflammatory response and subsequent morphological alterations such as development of fibrosis and angiogenesis.…”

“…This technique has been shown to be feasible through a 6-F guiding catheter with all drug-eluting balloons available and has also been successfully applied to the treatment of several kinds of DES restenosis (80). Clinical and preliminary angiographic and OCT results of this approach appear encouraging (36,81).…”

“…Recently, kissing inflation with drug-eluting balloons after provisional MV stenting with a bare-metal stent has been reported as a promising treatment in patients with low compliance to prolonged dual antiplatelet therapy (36). This technique has been shown to be feasible through a 6-F guiding catheter with all drug-eluting balloons available and has also been successfully applied to the treatment of several kinds of DES restenosis (80).…”

“…Separately, another group of investigators evaluated bifurcation treatment with 4 different new-generation DCB (SeQuent Please, In.Pact Falcon, Dior-II, and Pantera Lux [Biotronick, Bulach, Switzerland]) (44). The rationale in this study was to avert primary SB pre-dilation, which may increase the risk of dissection and SB stenting.…”
