Kinetics of nutrient removal in an on-site domestic wastewater treatment facility

Abstract: Abstract. Domestic wastewater from office building has not been maintained well especially in the areas where the sewerage system is unavailable. The aims of this research were to investigate the performance and kinetics of nutrient removal in an on-site domestic wastewater treatment facility which consists of anaerobic and aerobic systems for treating wastewater from office building. The experimental data obtained from the variations of COD:N:P ratio 250:28:2.5, 350:38:2.9, 450:47:3.3, and 600:60:3.7 with thr… Show more

“…By using this model, Tomar et al [47] investigated the nitrogen removal by an anammox hybrid reactor, kinetic constant of U max and K b were calculated as 45.045 and 47.072 g L 1 d 1 , respectively. On the other hand, in this study, K B and U max values were higher than those of Vandith and colleagues [48]. In another study, Modified Stover Kincannon model was applied for kinetic evaluating of UASB-anammox in total nitrogen removal the calculation of U max and K B were like 3.33 and 4.03, g L 1 d 1 , respectively [49].…”

“…The 𝑘𝑘 1 value was obtained from the slope of the straight line and is referred to as the first-order kinetic model as the rate of substrate removed by the first-order reaction. The 𝑘𝑘 1 value, as reported by Akbari et al [29] and Vandith et al [15] , is 1.882 𝑑𝑑 −1 and 1.01 𝑑𝑑 −1 , respectively. The variation in the 𝑘𝑘 1 values might be due to the type of wastewater treatment used, wastewater characterization, retention times, and mixed culture communities [15] .…”

“…The Stover Kincannon model is useful in modelling continuous and semi-continuous bioreactors [14] . Also, this model is most commonly used to determine the substrate removal rate at the steadystate conditions [15] . The Stover Kincannon model can be used to describe the relationship between substrate utilization rate and organic loading rate for a bioreactor.…”

“…The results of μ max and K B for TN removal in this study were higher than those of the NH 4 -N previous study of [10]. Additionally, the Stover-Kincannon model were also previously applied for evaluating kinetic coefficients for TN removal in the up-flow anoxic-aerobic sludge reactor, the bio-diatomite biofilm reactor, the up-flow aerobic-anoxic sludge bed reactor, the up-flow anaerobic sludge bed-anammox reactor, the anaerobic-aerobic reactor and combined anaerobic aerobic systems [13,17,24,33,34].…”
