Kinetics and Equilibrium Studies on the Removal of Victoria Blue Using Prosopis juliflora-Modified Carbon/Zn/Alginate Polymer Composite Beads

Abstract: This article describes the removal of triarylmethane compound Victoria Blue (VB dye) from an aqueous medium using Prosopis julif lora-modified carbon/Zn/alginate polymer bead. The experimental conditions of the adsorption process chosen in this study are dye concentration (4•10 −3 mg•kg −1 to 2.0•10 mg•kg −1 ), pH (3 to 10), adsorbent dose (0.5 g to 2.5 g), contact time (0.6 s to 5.4•10 3 s) and temperature (303 K to 343 K). The efficiency of the adsorption process was determined by kinetic, equilibrium, and t… Show more

“…In this study, an R L value of 0.03 shows that the adsorption of methylene blue onto PLAC-B was highly favourable (as the value is way beyond the unfavourable region of R L > 1) and there is a strong interaction between the methylene blue molecules and the activated carbon (Kumar and Tamilarasan, 2013).…”

“…The wide use of alginate derives from the possibility to obtain hydrogels with spherical shape and controlled sizes in the millimeters and up to micrometers range via ionic interaction with Ca 2+ and Ba 2+ at room temperature. Alginate gel beads are efficient in the removal of dyes, such as victoria blue (Kumar & Tamilarasan, 2013), methylene blue (Ai et al, 2011), and crystal violet (Cavallaro et al, 2013c).…”
