Kinesin superfamily protein 21B acts as an oncogene in non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract: Background Kinesin superfamily proteins (KIFs) serve as microtubule-dependent molecular motors, and are involved in the progression of many malignant tumors. In this study, we aimed to investigate the expression pattern and precise role of KIF21B in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods KIF21B expression in 72 cases of NSCLC tissues was measured by immunohistochemical staining (IHC). We used shRNA-KIF21B interference to silenced KIF21B in NSCLC cells. The biological roles of KIF21Bin the growth and metas… Show more

“…KIF21B is overexpressed in NSCLC tissues, and knockdown KIF21B can modulate the activation of Akt signaling pathway, then promote apoptosis of NSCLC cells. 26 By analyzing TCGA data, Zhong et al showed that upregulation of KIF18A could induce cell proliferation, prevent cell apoptosis, and predict a poor prognosis in LUAD. 27 High KIFC1 expression was associated with unfavorable OS of NSCLC by upregulating the expression of cyclin-dependent kinases inhibitor p21 and cell cycle driver protein CDC2.…”

“…KIF21B is a potential oncogene that resists the induction of apoptosis and facilitates malignant tumorigenesis, tumor development, intrusion, and metastasis. Patients with high expression of KIF21B have been demonstrated to have a poorer prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma ( Zhao et al, 2020 ) and non-small cell lung cancer ( Sun et al, 2020 ). SP6 is an important gene that regulates odontogenesis, belonging to a family of transcription factors that contain 3 classical zinc finger DNA-binding domains( Aurrekoetxea et al, 2016 ; Smith et al, 2020 ; Nakamura et al, 2020 ).…”

“…And KIFs also play an important role in the process of tumor proliferation, invasion and metastasis.Li et al reported KIF2C/4A/10/11/14/18B/20A/23 predict poor prognosis and promote cell proliferation in hepatocellular carcinoma [11] . Sun et al also reported the KIF21B act as an oncogene in non-small cell lung cancer by regulating the metastasis progress [9] . Research by Zhou et al showed KIF11 is associated with poor outcomes from breast Cancer as an oncogene.…”

“…Kinesin superfamily proteins (also known as KIFs) are important molecular motors that directionally transport various cargos, including membranous organelles, protein complexes and mRNAs [7] . The mechanisms how different kinesins recognize and bind to speci c cargos, as well as how determine the direction of transport and kinesins unload cargo, have already been revealed [8][9][10] . And KIFs also play an important role in the process of tumor proliferation, invasion and metastasis.Li et al reported KIF2C/4A/10/11/14/18B/20A/23 predict poor prognosis and promote cell proliferation in hepatocellular carcinoma [11] .…”
