Kinematic Properties and Meshing Condition of Elliptical Gear Train

Abstract: This paper presents the concept of eccentric elliptical gear train able to generate a variable gear ratio law. The first step in the noncircular gears virtual design process is the generation of the conjugate pitch curves, starting from a predesigned law of motion for the driven element or a predesigned geometry for the driving gear pitch curve. By designing a pair of non-circular gears, which are able to perform a proper gear ratio function, the output member of a mechanism can be effectively forced to move a… Show more

“…In preliminary design, geometric modeling is usually performed in an interactive manner This means that designers start with a sketch and then modify it until aesthetic and functional requirements are met. Generally, modeling techniques and procedures such as polynomial and spline functions are used to model volumetric 3D bodies where the positions of multiple points on curves or surfaces are precisely known [9,10].…”

“…The given wheel was designed for a smaller radius than the original wheel, but the design consisted of a lightened wheel where the shape of the web under the gearing was T-profile. The fixing of the wheel was designed through bolts in the given T-profile and the bolt locations were reinforced with a thicker wall [4,5]. Naveen et al focused on thin-walled structures of gear wheel bodies.…”

“…Every point of contact has to intersect with a virtual fixed point. For transmission of rotary motion between two shafts by gear teeth means, the instantaneous normals of the teeth profiles have to pass through a virtual fixed point [28,29].…”
