This study aimed to analyze the morphometric diversity of the Gayo Horse as the germplasm of native Indonesian horses in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia No.1054/Kpts/SR.120/10/2014 in order to obtain standardized data on the size of the Gayo horse morphometrics which are also part of the conservation and preservation effort of the Gayo horse as a local horse genetic resources. The research was conducted in Central Aceh, Bener Meriah. and Gayo Lues Regency on 87 male Gayo Horses. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling and the collected data were then analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. Based on the results of the study, male Gayo horses had an average (cm) body length of 102.96 ± 29.69, body height of 113.62 ± 3.53, chest circumference of 136.92 ± 7.07, hip witdh of 37.14 ± 7.77 and scrotal circumference of 24.4±5.56.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui prevalensi dan faktor risiko trypanosomiasis pada kuda di Sumba Timur. Sampel yang digunakan berupa darah dari 286 ekor kuda yang diambil di Wilayah Barat dan Timur Kabupaten Sumba Timur. Pengambilan sampel darah dilakukan melalui vena jugularis. Diagnosa trypanosomiasis dilakukan dengan pemeriksaan preparat ulas darah tipis yang diwarnai Giemsa 10%. Faktor risiko trypanosomiasis dipelajari dengan menyebar kuisioner yang dibuat khusus kepada para peternak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 2,10% sampel positif Trypanosoma evansi. Distribusi kejadiannya menyebar di Kecamatan Lewa (3,65%), Kecamatan Kota Waingapu (1,72%), dan Kecamatan Pahunga Lodu (7,4%). Peluang terjadinya infeksi trypanosomiasis berdasarkan nilai OR adalah: umur kuda lebih dari 5 tahun (OR=3,185), ketersediaan/asal air minum (OR=2,821), cara pemeliharaan digembalakan (OR=2,179), jenis kelamin betina (OR=1,256), lokasi/asal kuda di wilayah barat (OR=1,022), lalu-lintas ternak yang padat (OR=0,979), dan pengetahuan peternak tentang surra (OR=0,222). Secara statistik faktor risiko tersebut tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05). Dengan demikian, perlu dilakukan survailens aktif dan pengendalian trypanosomiasis pada kuda di Kabupaten Sumba Timur. Perlu juga dilakukan penelitian lanjutan dengan metode diagnostik yang lain, seperti card agglutination test (CATT).

Objective: The Sandalwood Horse has economic, social, and cultural advantages to the local community in Southwest Sumba Regency. However, sandalwood horse development is experiencing obstacles due to the absence of base area mapping data. This research aims to identify the potential area for the development of the Sandalwood horse in Southwest Sumba Regency.Methods: Descriptive quantitative method was used in this research. Time series data (2013-2018) was collected from related stakeholders in Southwest Sumba Regency. The Location Quotient (LQ), Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) and a combination of both LQ and DLQ analysis were applied to identify the potential area for the development of the Sandalwood horse. If the value of LQ and DLQ is more than 1, it means that the area/district could be recommended as a potential area for the development of the Sandalwood horse.Results: The result shows that of the 11 (eleven) districts in Southwest Sumba Regency, only 5 (five) districts (Wewewa Utara, Wewewa Barat, Wewewa Selatan, Wewewa Tengah, and Kodi Bangedo) could be recommended as the potential areas for development of sandalwood horses in the future, with an average LQ value ranging from 1.01 to 1.85 and DLQ ranging from 1.27 to 78.27.Conclusions: Southwest Sumba Regency has potential districts for the development of the Sandalwood horse. The sandalwood horse in the potential districts is a leading commodity that can fulfil the local needs of each sub-district and has a population growth above the average level in Southwest Sumba Regency.
