“…Intragenomic divergent copies were proven to be linked with multiple ribosomal loci Orosová et al 2010), which correlates well with the theory that homogenization processes involved in the evolution of ribosomal genes are less efficient if rDNA is dispersed on multiple loci (van Herwerden et al 1999). In the present paper, however, application of ITS paralogues was used for the first time in this cestode order for interspecific comparison of two congeneric species, which were considered conspecific (Chubb et al 1996), even though without any morphological evidence.…”

“…ITS intragenomic variation has also been reported in other species of grasshoppers, such as C. parallelus (Parkin and Butlin, 2004) and Podisma pedestris (Keller et al, 2006), and in other groups of organisms, such as nematodes (Hugall et al, 1999), crabs (Harris and Crandall, 2000), crustaceans (Gandolfi et al, 2001), sponges (Wörheide et al, 2004), mosquitoes (Alquezar et al, 2010), tapeworms (Orosová et al, 2010) and plants (Nieto-Felliner, Roselló, 2007;Song et al, 2012). Such a high intragenomic variation between paralogous copies of rDNA units could lead to highly divergent phylogenetic results, depending on the specific copy or copies sampled.…”

“…In K. sinensis and K. saurogobii, small heterochromatin blocks were observed on all chromosomes, except for the biggest metacentric chromosome pair (present data, Orosová et al 2010a). The presence of heterochromatin blocks out of the pericentromeric region is occasional in Cestoda karyotypes and has been reported only in C. fennica (Orosová et al 2010b). In particular, due to the presence of small positive blocks limited to the centromeric area, it may be assumed that the cestode genome contains a low heterochromatin amount.…”

“…It is apparent that chromosomal data could help establish interrelationships among species for taxonomic purposes (Petkevičiūtė 1992). The evident differences between the karyotypes of C. fennica and other karyologically studied lytocestid species do not support the current taxonomic placement of this species into family Lytocestidae (Orosová et al 2010b).…”
