K4Ni3O6 (I) and KNa2Ni2O4 (II) are obtained by the azide/nitrate route starting from stoichiometric mixtures of KN3, KNO3, NaN3, NaNO3, and NiO (Ag crucible, complex heating schedule, annealing at 873 K, 30 h (I) and 500 h (II)) followed by oxidation at 873 K (15 h (I) and 100 h (II)).
