In this paper we propose a compositional logical semantics for business process languages to be used in automatic Web service composition. We introduce a concept of Higher Order Work Flow (HOWF) and use it for expressing control of business process. A precise semantics of HOWF enables us both to dynamically generate HOWF for automatic composition of services and to reason about the reachability of goals in process models when HOWF are described manually. Our semantics is general enough to cover different process languages; however, we mainly show its applicability in the context of OWL-S and BPEL.

This paper investigates the use of ontologies for the development of Domain-Specific Languages (DSL). In Model-based Software Development (MBSD), ontologies as formal models are mostly used in the phase of domain analysis as formal representations of domain models and requirements of a system. In this paper, we extend this view by introducing a concept of a DSL meta-model ontology that is defined as consisting of system ontology of a MSDB tool linked to one or more domain ontologies and external software artefacts. According to the solution presented in this paper, the given domain ontologies are semi-automatically integrated into a DSL meta-model using a set of transformations between constructs of ontology modelling language OWL and a modelling language used for representing DSL meta-models. This approach enables a dynamic semantic composition of a DSL meta-model and is prototypically implemented in Java as an extension to the DSL development tool CoCoViLa.Reference to this paper should be made as follows: Haav, H-M. and Ojamaa, A. Understanding an existing program includes the analysis of the program code, as, very often, the program code is the only reliable source of information about the program. Many code analysis tools offer the user a possibility to examine the program code through a predefined set of graphical views. These tools can be considerably improved by using knowledge-based techniques. Knowledge-based code analysis tools allow the user to employ his own knowledge about programs and their analysis.The paper discusses a knowledge-based toolkit for graphical presentation, or visualisation, of programs: its architecture, the implementation and results of work. It is advocated that the introduction of knowledge-based techniques increases the extensibility and mod$ability of the code analysers. In addition, the user of a knowledgebased toolkit is offered an intelligent environment for storing knowledge about programs and peqorming reasoning on it.
