Justification of green manufacturing implementation parameters using fuzzy-based simulation model

Abstract: Purpose This paper aims to evaluate the contribution of significant factors in the success of green manufacturing (GM) implementation in Indian small and medium-scale manufacturing organizations (SMEs). Design/methodology/approach In this paper, the fuzzy inference system (FIS; fuzzy logic toolbox) is deployed to assess the implementation of GM. For this purpose, significant factors for GM implementation success parameters are identified from relevant literature and validated by industry experts. Findings … Show more

“…This examination encompasses the interactions between SMEs and various stakeholders, including collaborations among SMEs [63], consumer or customer demand [54,57], relationships with the community [58], and other stakeholders [59]. Additionally, it takes into account the emerging trend of a paradigm shift towards the ecopreneur paradigm [64]. Customers have a significant influence in motivating companies to use green product diversification initiatives [60].…”

“…Customers have a significant influence in motivating companies to use green product diversification initiatives [60]. Similarly, according to Singh et al [64], several factors such as the adoption of new technology, customer attributes, social and government pressures, and the implementation of green supply chain management can be identified as crucial predictors for the successful integration of green manufacturing practices within small and medium-scale organizations in India. SMEs have the capacity to implement various strategies in response to shifts occurring within their internal and external environments.…”

“…Increase in maintenance expenses: The manufacturers may sometimes be misled by the myth that introduction of new practices enhances maintenance expenses. Such misconception sometimes makes them unwilling to go for Lean practices (Singh et al , 2020).…”

“…This is especially true for a developing country (Godinho Filho et al , 2016; Panizzolo et al , 2012). In the Indian context, SMEs are accountable for a large part of the trade output and exports to the various countries (Singh et al , 2020). Currently, SMEs are contributing 22% to the GDP to the Indian economy (Sahoo and Yadav, 2018).…”
