Jurrasic-Cracow Flint in the Linear Pottery Culture in Kuyavia, Chełmno Land and the Lower Vistula Region

Abstract: Jurrasic-Cracow flint was one of the most important lithic raw materials in the Linear Pottery Culture (LBK) in Poland. It is registered in numerous assemblages in the Polish Lowland, but its percentages and technological structures vary through time. This paper presents the current state of research on Jurrasic-Cracow flint procurement, which is discussed in the broad context of cultural developments of early farming communities in the areas of the Lowland close to the River Vistula.

“…Nevertheless, I maintain the interpretation of feature E14 as belonging to BKC, because it is spatially isolated from LBPC settlement features and at the same time it was dug into an LBK pit accompanying a longhouse. The latter seems to have been behaviour typical of BKC and was recorded in a few other BKC features in the site (see Czerniak, Pyzel 2013;Czerniak, Pyzel, in press;Pyzel 2018).…”
