Jugular Phlebectasia in Children

Abstract: Jugular phlebectasia is a congenital dilatation of jugular vein which appears as a soft, compressible mass in the neck only during straining or crying. It should be differentiated from laryngocele, cysts and tumors of neck which may also appear during straining. Comparable ultrasonography (US) and computerized tomography (CT) are diagnostic methods to distinguish the pathology. “…O diagnóstico pode ser estabelecido a partir de uma forte suspeita clínica, sendo comprovado pela ultra-sonografia com Doppler 6,7 , tomografia computadorizada 8,9 , venografia 10 ou arteriografia 11 . Pacientes assintomáticos devem ser seguidos clinicamente já que complicações como trombose 12 e Síndrome de Horner 13 são raras, e a ruptura não tem sido relatada, enquanto os sintomáticos devem ser submetidos à excisão cirúrgica.…”
