This work uses the scoping review format to embrace a systematic review of content curation and journalism. This initially entailed an analysis of scientific studies on the process of content curation in the media with a view to establishing their academic impact, identifying their characteristics, and determining their academic evolution. Having established the subjects and the types of studies performed, the resulting document bank was then analysed. Next, semi-structured interviews were held with the researchers who emerged from the scoping review. The results show 2020 to be the year in which the greatest number of academic works were published in this area. Research content notably included studies on content curation and new journalistic formats, curation on social media and online tools, algorithmic curation and content curation and misinformation. Lastly, the data from the 13 interviews helped both to expand knowledge of what content curation in journalism is and to understand its application in current and future journalism work, as well as yielding some benchmark examples of content curation in journalism.

The disinformation crisis that has resulted from the consolidation of the Internet and the explosion of social networks has highlighted the importance of scientific journalism to communicate rigorous, contrasted and quality content to society. In this context, both professionally and academically level, the focus is on the discipline and, increasingly, on the role of social networks as a vehicle for promoting scientific dissemination content. This study analyzes, using the scoping review technique, the articles published on science journalism and social networks in the last five years (2017 and 2021) in order to identify research topics and trends, concerns and challenges. The study reveals the influence that social networks are having on current science journalism, highlighting their role as a channel for dissemination and interaction with audiences and engagement with new audiences. In addition to the prominence given to health, environmental and data verification issues. It also warns of the challenge for professionals to improve their performance in order to achieve effective communication through innovative channels and generate visual and interactive content.

The goal of this study is to explore the role of digital games as political actors in digital journalism. The development of digital games designed to frame journalistic messages led to the emergence of newsgames. This trend impacts online mass media outlets’ performance as political actors in democratic polities. In this article, we explore the current relationship between political communication and newsgames by answering the following research question: How do online mass media outlets use newsgames to report, interpret, and critically analyze democratic polities?<em> </em>In this study, an inductive grounded theory approach was used to analyze 29 political newsgames published in 25 mass-media digital outlets across 11 different countries. The findings reveal that mass media outlets employ political newsgames to perform four distinct functions when covering political events: analytical reportage, commentary, critical scrutiny, and representation.
