Jointly modelling individual’s daily activity-travel time use and mode share by a nested multivariate Tobit model system

Abstract: Understanding mechanisms underlie the individual's daily time allocations is very important to understand the variability of individual's time-space constraints and to forecast his/her daily activity participation. At most of previous studies, activity time allocation was viewed as allocating a continuous quantity (daily time budget) into multiple discrete alternatives (i.e. various activities and trips to engage with). However, few researches considered the influence of travel time that needs to be spent on r… Show more

“…In addition, the table records the average marginal effect of the core variable on the dependent variable when y > 0. The Marginal Effect (ME) typically represents the alteration in the dependent variable resulting from a one-unit shift in the explanatory variable (Liu et al, 2017). In the present study, since the dependent variable is processed with natural logarithms, a one-unit alteration in the independent variable corresponds to a (ME*100) % change in the dependent variable.…”

“…For more information, please refer to a review of time-use modelling [ 21 ]. Existing research of multiple discrete-continuous choices for individual time-use modeling can be classified into two groups: multivariate discrete-continuous frameworks (e.g., [ 19 , 22 26 ] and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) demand systems (e.g., [ 22 , 27 31 ]).…”

“…Due to the seasonal environment, tourists may discover the availability and quality of several open-air activities. Various sorts of tourist goods, such winter sports and water sports, are devoted to the seasonal tourism, including natural sites and beach tourism (Liu et al, 2017). In the field of economics, it has been proposed that the impact of climatic changes has significant effects on GDP (Wu, 2016).…”
