Joint Energy-Spectral-Efficiency Optimization of CoMP and BS Deployment in Dense Large-Scale Cellular Networks

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, the energy-spectral efficiency (ESE) benefiting from the joint optimization of coordinated multipoint (CoMP) transmission and base station (BS) deployment are evaluated in the context of dense large-scale cellular network. We first derive a closed-form network ESE expression for a largescale CoMP-enhanced network, which allows us to quantify the influence of key network parameters on the achievable network ESE, including the BS density and the cooperation activation probability characte… Show more

“…,n } k, ,n must be available, which requires information sharing among the J receivers, e.g., the base stations (BSs). This can be achieved through different approaches, but here we identify Cooperative Multi-Point (CoMP) [44]- [46] as a suitable and effective paradigm to implement Algorithm 3 in a centralized fashion. According to the CoMP paradigm, all base stations share CSI with one base station, which acts as head of the cluster.…”

“…Some optimizations in the JT-CoMP scenarios were carried out in the literature [12]- [15]. To cope with the problem that the load-balancing capability becomes much lower than that expected in a clustered heterogeneous network (HetNet), a feasible suboptimal iterative algorithm was provided in [12] for determining the joint user association solution of the selforganizing network.…”

“…In a different yet relevant context of 5G, EE is an important design criterion [26], [27], where the energy saving should not be at the cost of the quality of service (QoS) [7], [28]. The optimal EE design is critical, and can make preferable balance between total power consumption and spectrum efficiency (SE) so as to improve resource utilization [29].…”
