Jigsaw Learning Strategy in a Diverse Science-Classroom Setting: Feasibility, Challenges, and Adjustment

Abstract: Jigsaw learning strategy is considered effective in enhancing students’ learning outcomes. Yet, it is problematic for a science classroom that contains educational challenges. The aim of this study was to investigate the implementation of the jigsaw learning in science classes in Indonesian classrooms. This included the feasibility of the jigsaw strategy, the challenges that interfered with the implementations, and the necessary approach to fit the strategy with the challenges. A qualitative case study was use… Show more

“…It can guide students in carrying out an inquiry activity to gain new insights and solve problems with the knowledge they construct (Sukmasari & Rosana, 2017). Project-based assessments are suitable for science learning because they can increase students' selfefficacy, namely students' confidence in doing assignments (Morimoto et al, 2010;Effendi-hasibuan et al, 2020). Project assessment emphasizes research assignments in the form of problems related to the material starting from the planning stage, data collection, data processing, data presentation, and report preparation (Bressane et al, 2020).…”

“…In chemistry learning, understanding concepts and theories need practicum as a direct learning experience. In chemistry there are two things that closely related, chemistry as a product (chemical knowledge in the form of facts, concepts, theories, and principles) and the process (scientific work) (Effendi-Hasibuan, Fuldiaratman, Dewi, Sulistiyo, & Hindarti, 2020;Hairida, 2018;Maison et al, 2020). Both of these things can be achieved by students through practicum.…”

“…Learning is the process of interaction of learners with educators, with lesson materials, delivery methods, learning strategies, and learning resources in a learning environment (Effendi-Hasibuan et al, 2020;Pane & Dasopang, 2017). The learning process is an effort to make students learn; indeed, a situation is a learning event (event of learning) that is an effort to change students' behaviour (Juniasih et al, 2013;Kasanah et al, 2019).…”
