ITGA3 Is Associated With Immune Cell Infiltration and Serves as a Favorable Prognostic Biomarker for Breast Cancer

Abstract: BackgroundITGA3 is a member of the integrin family, a cell surface adhesion molecule that can interact with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. The purpose of this study was to explore the significance of ITGA3 expression in the prognosis and clinical diagnosis of breast cancer patients.MethodsOncomine, the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) and UALCAN were used to analyze the expression of ITGA3 in various cancers. PrognoScan, GEPIA, Kaplan–Meier plotter and Easysurv were utilized to analyze the prognosis of ITGA3 in… Show more

“…Neutrophils infiltrating into the primary tumor interact with circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the bloodstream and are involved in the establishment of a metastatic niche [ 37 , 38 ]. Circulating monocytes are recruited into breast tumors through chemotactic signals and then differentiate into TAMs to promote tumor growth and metastasis [ 39 , 40 ]. TAMs are transformed into M2 macrophages to enhance tumor angiogenesis in advanced tumors [ 41 ].…”

“…Among the ITGAs, ITGA3 in previous studies has been reported elevated in many cancers, including bladder cancer [21], thyroid carcinoma [22], non-small cell lung cancer [23], breast cancer [24], head and neck cancer [25], tongue cancer [26], and colorectal cancer [27]. However, there is only limited evidence regarding the expression of ITGA3 in pancreatic cancer.…”

“…Furthermore, increased integrin β1/lnc005620 regulated chemoresistance to epirubicin in TNBC in vitro and in vivo ( 139 ). However, integrin α3 is a favorable prognostic biomarker in breast cancer via integrin α3-ECM mediated immune cell infiltration ( 173 ). Increased integrin α5 expression induces lower aggressiveness in tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer ( 174 ).…”
