Mechanisms of Cell Adhesion Molecules in Endocrine-Related Cancers: A Concise Outlook

Abstract: Chemotherapy is a critical treatment for endocrine-related cancers; however, chemoresistance and disease recurrence remain a challenge. The interplay between cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment via cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) promotes drug resistance, known as cell adhesion-mediated drug resistance (CAM-DR). CAMs are cell surface molecules that facilitate cell-to-cell or cell-to-extracellular matrix binding. CAMs exert an adhesion effect and trigger intracellular signaling that regulates cancer cell… Show more

“…The dark reddish purple (Black group) and light peacock green (Green group) are linked to the cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) pathway ( Figure 8 F). CAMs are cell surface molecules that promote cell-to-cell or cell-matrix binding, exerting adhesion and triggering intracellular signaling, thereby regulating various cellular activities ( Ruan et al, 2022 ). The light peacock green (Green group) may exhibit a stronger cell adhesion effect through myelin protein zero ( MPZ ).…”

“…Cell adhesion molecules on the cell surface are involved in numerous physiological processes such as cell adhesion, survival, proliferation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and drug resistance [ 46 ]. Podocytes are anchored to the GBM via many types of cell adhesion molecules [ 47 ].…”

“…Cell adhesion is also an important factors in tumor cell metastasis. Cell adhesion molecules plays a pivotal role in adhesion, triggers intracellular signal transduction, and participates in the regulation of EMT, thereby participating in the progression of distant metastasis of tumor cells ( Ruan et al, 2022 ).…”
