Isotope shift and hyperfine structure in the iridium I spectrum

Abstract: Isotopic shift (IS) and hyperfine structure (hfs) measurements were performed in 15 lines to the ground configurations (5 d + 6 s) 9 of iridium. In a parametric description according to Bauche and Champeau accurate IS parameters were determined, and together with the IS parameters of 5 other 5d-elements, systematic trends could be noticed. The hfs analysis (with the help of the effective operator method of Sandars and Beck) yielded reliable radial integrals which permit a comparison with data from various self… Show more

“…Indeed, this orbital is originating from the h 9/2 subshell. In [182][183][184][185][186][187][188][189]191,193 Ir have been estimated using the F-factor deduced from a measured λ value [53]. The values not connected by lines correspond to isomeric states.…”

“…Indeed, very accurate hyperfine structure measurements were performed only for the ground level and low-lying fine structure levels by Bfittgenbach et al [1,2], using the atomic-beam magnetic-resonance method. Only recently, the results of a Doppler-limited investigation of optical transitions were reported by Sawatzky and Winkler [3]. They measured the isotope shift of several lines in the UV region.…”

“…Because of the very high evaporation temperature (boiling point = 4130 °C), iridium is extremely difficult to produce in the atomic form; for this reason, only a few experimental investigations on this atom have been performed [1][2][3]. In particular, no high-resolution optical spectroscopy has been performed; this is also due to the fact that the most intense lines of the iridium spectrum are in the ultraviolet region, where tunable radiation of high intensity and spectral purity was hard to produce until a few years ago.…”
