Isolation and passage of muscle-derived stem cells from the rat penile corpora cavernosa and induction of differentiation into smooth muscle cells

Abstract: This study treated the isolation and passage of muscle-derived stem cells (MDSCs) from rat penile corpora cavernosa, detection of stem cell marker expression, observation of their self-renewal and continuous proliferation, and demonstration of their potential to differentiate into smooth muscle cells in co-culture. Muscle-derived stem cells from the rat penile corpora cavernosa were isolated and purified. The expression of stem cell markers Sca-1 and desmin was detected in PP6 cells, thus confirming that the m… Show more

“…It is related to the pluripotency maintaining and regulating the differentiation ability of stem cells . Nolazco G et al reported that the quiescent endogenous stem cell was detected in the corpora cavernosa and proved to have the ability of differentiation after induction in vitro . In our study, we found that the expression of VEGF increased in the treatment group meanwhile the number of OCT4‐positive cells around vascular endothelium increased, suggesting that newly formed vascular endothelial cells might be derived from cavernous endogenous stem cell differentiation.…”

“…On the other hand, LESWT could enhance stem cell proliferation, differentiation and paracrine 44454647. In addition, the types of stem cells detected around the cavernous vasculature, including perisinusoidal and subtunic penile progenitor cells48 and cavernous smooth muscle-derived stem cells,4950 could be induced to activate. Thus, LESWT induced angiogenesis and created a beneficial situation for the establishment of the stem cell niche.…”
