Isolation and characterization of nanometre aggregates from a Bai-Hu-Tang decoction and their antipyretic effect

Abstract: In China, a decoction is one of the most common clinical dosage forms. Nanometre aggregates (NAs), which often consist of circular or irregular nanoparticles, have been observed in previous research on decoctions. A Bai-Hu-Tang (BHT) decoction is an ancient clinical dosage form in China. The purpose of this work was to isolate and characterize NAs from BHT and to investigate their antipyretic effect. A BHT decoction was prepared by the traditional method. The mechanism and active components of the aggregates i… Show more

“…The dialysis method is widely used to separate and purify nanoparticle solutions because of its mild reaction conditions, and it can prevent the extrusion of particles caused by external force [ 37 ]. However, Prusky [ 38 ] and Li [ 39 ] separated the green tea nanoparticles with different dialysis times, causing a significantly different result.…”

“…It has been revealed that there are numerous nanoparticles in a variety of traditional Chinese medical decoctions and culinary soups [ 6 , 30 , 31 , 32 ]. These nanoparticles, including the BLG nanoparticles in this study, are formed during the boiling preparation, and their formation results from regular food preparation rather than the subjective nanoparticle preparations [ 33 ].…”

“…The polysaccharide nanoparticle from BLG decoction is not the sole example, which shows the same bioactivity as the decoction. The nanoparticles in the Bai-Hu-Tang decoction exhibited the same antipyretic effect compared with Bai-Hu-Tang itself [ 30 ]. The nanoparticle from freshwater clam ( Corbicula fluminea Muller) soup performed a hepatoprotective effect in vivo [ 45 ].…”
