Isolation and characterization of human mesenchymal stem cells from gingival connective tissue

Abstract: In conclusion, we isolated and characterized stem cells from human gingival connective tissue with modified protocol. GMSCs showed multipotency with high proliferation and characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells. GMSCs are promising sources for tissue engineering and may be obtained during routine procedures under local anesthesia. Further research is needed to evaluate the potential of GSMCs' proliferation and cryopreservation.

“…Conversely, GMSC cultured in adipogenic medium express PPARγ-2 [7] and form lipid globules characteristic of adipogenic differentiation [57] . In comparison to other CMF sources of MSC, GMSC undergo a greater degree of adipogenesis as compared to PDLSC, but less so than DPSC [56] . GMSC also exhibit the capability to differentiate towards the chondrogenic lineage, as evidenced by strong staining for the chondrogenic markers aggrecan and collagen type II α1 [56] .…”

“…Cell numbers were determined by triplicate counting using a Casy® TTC cell counter. For all samples, the data is shown as mean ± SD (*p < 0.05) dental pulp [11,12], or from less specialized intra-oral connective tissue compartments, such as the gingiva [13,15,[31][32][33][34][35][36][37].…”
