Isolation and Characterization of Anthocyanins from Hibiscus sabdariffa Flowers

Abstract: The intense red-colored Hibiscus sabdariffa flowers are an inexpensive source of anthocyanins with potential to be used as natural, innocuous, and health-beneficial colorants. An anthocyanin-rich extract from hibiscus flowers was obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction. By a single-step process fractionation using a Sep-Pak C18 cartridge, the main hibiscus anthocyanins, delphinidin-3-O-sambubioside (Dp-samb) and cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside (Cy-samb), were separated and then characterized via NMR and HPLC-ESIM… Show more

“…Different anthocyanins generally demonstrate different color response to pH variation (Garber, Odendaal, & Carlson, 2013). Herein, the color response of the crude RACNs extract solution was an integrated color response of several kind of anthocyanins, mainly including delphinidin-3-sambubioside and cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside (Grajeda-Iglesias, et al, 2016). 3.2.…”

“…Recently, many researchers have attempted to synthesize copper iodide via green and ecologically friendly routes. These attempts comprise the utilization of plant or fruit extracts containing anthocyanins [31] as reducing agents, stabilizer and capping agent [32]. The present study aims at the synthesis of CuI NP using the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flower extract and its use in the removal of aqueous Cr(VI) and Mn(VII) metal ions.…”
