Is Physical Inactivity Associated With Musculoskeletal Disorders?

Abstract: , upper back (35.2%), low back (35.2%) during the past 12 months, upper back (29.6%), neck (28.8%), low back (23.2%) in the past month, upper back (16.8%), shoulders (12.8%), neck and low back (11.2%) on the day of study. When MD during the past 12 months, in the past month, on the day of study were compared with PAL, statistically significant relation was found between knee pain and PAL (p=0.002, p=0.001, p=0.023, respectively). Conclusion:The results showed that musculoskeletal pain was more frequent in… Show more

“…Musculoskeletal pain is a known result of overuse, repetitive strain and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (1). It is multifactorial and resulted in due to the interactions between various risk factors varying across several occupations (2). Office workers, school teachers, and health care professionals are the most common occupations which have high physical risk factors (3).…”

“…Physical activity is defined as movements that concern the whole body structure and result in energy expenditure (4). Although studies report that regular physical activity is effective in preventing many chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, hypertension depression and obesity, it is stated that spinal involvement is the most common among musculoskeletal diseases due to physical inactivity (5). Long sitting times as a result of advancing technology affect postural structure, and an increase in thoracic kyphosis degree is observed as back extensors, diaphragm, transversus abdominis, and pelvic floor muscles weaken.…”
