“…Our model predicted that there were 9.7 million chronic HCV cases in 2015 in China (pre-DAAs scenario), which is within the 95% CI of the 9.8 million (95% CI, 6.7-10.8) cases estimated in another modeling study. (4) Thein et al's meta-analysis estimated a cumulative probability of cirrhosis (F4) of 16% (95% CI, [14][15][16][17][18][19] at year 20 and 41% (95% CI, 36-45) at year 30. (18) Our model predicted the cumulative probabilities of cirrhosis (F4) to be 14.7% and 44.3% at years 20 and 30, respectively (Supporting Fig.…”

“…The launch of DAAs is expected to substantially reduce the burden of HCV in China. Several modeling studies have simulated this impact of DAAs in the United States, Australia, and European countries . However, the effect of these changes has not yet been modeled in China.…”

“…The most striking success in scale-up of this communitybased model was in overcoming the key challenges encountered with other large-scale national and community HCV test and treat programmes-namely, the low uptake of HCV RNA testing following positive serological tests and following treatment, as well as overall poor access and coverage among the general population in rural areas. [20][21][22] There were several distinctive features of our approach that contributed to its successful implementation across a wide range of villages. First and foremost, the strong community engagement, empowerment and commitment to implementing the project activities through community-based associations, local village leadership and village promoters.…”

“…[43]); however as of 2016 there remains a sizable patient population who would clearly benefit from DAA therapy but are untreated or receiving clearly inferior regimens. For instance, in Greece–which has one of the highest rates of HCV prevalence in Europe with 14% of patients having GT4 –PR-only regimens remain widely used with estimated SVR of just 65% following 48 weeks of treatment [44]. …”
