Is carboxytherapy a good alternative method in the removal of various skin defects?

Abstract: Carbon dioxide is a physiologic compound present in our body, mainly as a result of cellular metabolism. The frequency of carboxytherapy use by dermatologists and cosmetologists increased significantly in the second half of the 20th century due to the fact that it improves blood circulation within skin tissues. This article focuses on the use of carboxytherapy in case of various skin problems, such as stretch marks, scars, loss of elasticity, redundancy of fatty tissue, cellulite, morphea, and alopecia. The re… Show more

“…In addition, carboxytherapy improves skin blood circulation levels, which causes general improvement of the skin and its functions when compared to other treatments which also improve skin elasticity. 11 Studies have also demonstrated the emergence of new capillary vessels after treatment with carboxytherapy. 1,14 Histological analysis shows an evident increase in elastic fibers after a single session (application) of carboxytherapy.…”

“…Carbon dioxide (CO 2 )-enriched spas, which have been used since the Roman era for recuperation and treatment, are found abundantly all over the world. Many studies [8][9][10][11][12] found that percutaneous absorption of carbon dioxide has therapeutic effects by promoting blood ow and vascular regeneration in vascular disorders, such as peripheral capillary regression in patients with diabetes 13 and severe limb ischemia in patients with peripheral arterial disease, and in skin diseases 14 . CO 2 bathing induces vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) synthesis and nitric oxide (NO)-dependent capillary angiogenesis at the site of ischemia 15 .…”

“…Há outra técnica também utilizada para o tratamento da lipodistrofia é a Carboxiterapia, que possui grandes efeitos de vasodilatação e traz bons resultados na quebra de gordura (KOŁODZIEJCZAK, PODGÓRNA, ROTSZTEJN, 2018). O recurso com CO2 é aplicado com uma agulha de insulina, atingindo as camadas cutâneas e subcutâneas da pele BARROS, 2016).…”
