Is Anti-Müllerian Hormone Associated with IVF Outcomes in Young Patients with Diminished Ovarian Reserve?

Abstract: Aim:To investigate whether anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is associated with IVF cycle outcomes in young patients with diminished ovarian reserve. Materials & methods: Retrospective study of patients <35 years of age undergoing fresh IVF who had at least two 8-cell, day-3 embryos transferred with grades 1, 1.5 or 2. Patients were subgrouped, a priori, based on serum AMH levels: <1 or >1 ng/ml and <0.5 or >0.5 ng/ml. Results: In total, 1005 patients were included. Patients in the >1 ng/ml group required lesser go… Show more

“…As mentioned above, data on the qualitative importance of AMH for oocytes are unclear. AMH levels have been shown to correlate with the number of oocytes retrieved during gonadotrophin stimulation; however, studies on the correlation of AMH with the number of clinically successful pregnancies are often contradictory, and AMH levels do not correlate with the number of live births . These findings question the ability of serum AMH as a predictor of the course of pregnancy and/or spontaneous abortion at an early stage .…”

“…AMH levels have been shown to correlate with the number of oocytes retrieved during gonadotrophin stimulation; however, studies on the correlation of AMH with the number of clinically successful pregnancies are often contradictory, 10,11 and AMH levels do not correlate with the number of live births. 13,14 These findings question the ability of serum AMH as a predictor of the course of pregnancy and/or spontaneous abortion at an early stage. 8,9,11 The aim of the present study was therefore to study the prognostic value of AMH serum levels as a marker of early abortion among women younger than 35 years in the first trimester of spontaneous pregnancy.…”

“…In young patients with low AMH levels who have good quality embryos, AMH is not associated with clinical pregnancy, spontaneous miscarriage, or live birth rates [16].…”

“…This finding is of particular importance to women who require ART after salpingectomy. Reduced ovarian reserve, as reflected by lower AMH serum concentrations, correlate with a lower oocyte yield after controlled ovarian hyperstimulation . Studies report a strong correlation between the number of oocytes retrieved per cycle and live birth …”
