This article reviews the literature on risk factors for victimization in romantic relationships of adolescent girls and young adult women. The review includes 61 empirical studies published between 1986 and 2006 that have investigated risk factors for sustained psychological, sexual, and physical violence in romantic relationships of young women ages 12 to 24. An ecological approach is used as a conceptual model to review risk factors into four categories: sociodemographic factors, individual factors (personal and interpersonal), environmental factors (family, community, and peers), and contextual factors (linked to the romantic relationship). Methodological limitations of the studies in terms of measurement issues, samples studied, research designs, and underlying conceptual models are discussed. Finally, implications for prevention programming are considered. Recommendations are presented about which clientele should be targeted, which risk factors should be considered, and when programs should be implemented.

The perpetration of severe inter-sibling violence (SISV) remains a largely unexplored area of family violence. This paper describes an investigation of risk factors for intentional SISV perpetration. A sample of 111 young people under the care of the Scottish criminal justice or welfare systems was studied. A SISV perpetration interview schedule was developed to measure the influence of 43 potential predictor variables. The Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire and Levenson's Self-Report Psychopathy Scale were also employed in this exploratory analysis.Two distinct factors of intentional SISV perpetration i.e., SISV with weapon use and SISV without weapon use were studied as criterion variables throughout a series of multiple regression analyses. The most robust risk factors, determined by the direction and magnitude of the statistically significant beta weights, for 'SISV with weapon use' were animal abuse (.69) and physically assaulting school staff (.18). The strongest risk factors revealed for 'SISV without weapon use' included physically assaulting (.19) and verbally abusing (.12) school staff as well as low sibling empathy (-.68). RESUMOA violência entre irmãos é um fenómeno que genericamente continua a ser subestimado, e Portugal não constitui exceção. Mas o seu estudo é fundamental para uma melhor compreensão do fenómeno da violência, nomeadamente em contexto familiar. A presente investigação pretendeu analisar, numa amostra de estudantes universitários portugueses, a validade de construto das CTS2-SP (versão irmãos). Trata-se de um instrumento de autorrelato que permite avaliar as táticas de conflito usadas em contexto fraterno. Os resultados confirmam o modelo multidimensional constituído pelos cinco fatores propostos pelos autores deste instrumento, bem como a sua adequabilidade para avaliar a violência fraterna. However its study is fundamental for a better understanding of the phenomenon of violence, especially in the family context. This study intended to analyze, a sample of Portuguese university students the internal structure of the CTS2-SP (sibling version), which is a self-report measure for assessing the use of conflict tactics in a fraternal context. The results confirmed the multi-dimensional model comprising five factors proposed by the authors, as well as their adequacy to assess the fraternal violence.
