Schaible et al (1991) and Schaible and Aillery (2003) examined irrigation technology transitions for the U.S. Pacific Northwest (PNW) and the mid-Plains States regions, respectively, finding that time-dependent economic influences (normalized commodity prices) were critical in explaining producer transitions to more efficient irrigation systems. For both regions, in the absence of policy-induced conservation incentives, future irrigation technology transitions were found to continue but at a relatively slow to modest pace.…”
