ABSTRACT:The cloacal bursa is an organ in fowls, which triggers lymphocyte maturation and transference to other tissues. Since there is scanty information on its morphology in wild species in spite of its importance in the fowls´ immunological system, current analysis describes the arterial vascularization of the cloacal bursa in the greater rhea. Twenty juvenile rheas (male and female), which died of natural causes, were obtained from the Center for the Multiplication of Wild Animals (CEMAS/UFERSA). The animals were dissected and their thoracic aorta cannulated and red-stained Latex Neoprene 650 was introduced. The cloacal bursa was irrigated from the terminal branches of the abdominal aorta similar to the caudal mesenteric artery and to the right and left internal iliac arteries. The right and left internal pudenda arteries originated from the right and left internal iliac arteries which, in their turn, gave rise to cloacalbursa arteries and to the right and left cloacal arteries in all studied animals. The caudal mesenteric artery contributed to the arterial blood of the cloacal bursa in almost all studied animals through the anastomosis of right or left internal pudenda artery, with direct branches to the cloacal bursa. The cloacal bursa of the greater rhea is irrigated by cloacal-bursa arteries and cloacal right and left and also by the mesenteric caudal artery, with small variations with regard to the number and layout of the anastomoses and branches from the arteries. The latter are specific characteristics and differentiate them from standards perceived in other fowls.

ResumoEstudaram-se as origens, ramificações e distribuições das artérias mesentéricas cranial e caudal em 30 aves (Gallus gallus) da linhagem Cobb 500, machos, com idade entre 5 e 6 semanas. Os espécimes tiveram seus vasos arteriais preenchidos com solução aquosa corada de Neoprene Látex "450" a 50% e a seguir foram fixados em solução aquosa de formaldeído a 10%. A artéria mesentérica cranial emergiu da face lateral direita da aorta descendente caudalmente à artéria celíaca e através das artérias ileocecal, jejunais e ileais distribuiu-se pelo jejuno, íleo, cecos e reto, terminando próximo ao divertículo vitelino. A artéria mesentérica caudal originou-se da face ventral da aorta descendente e após curto trajeto bifurcou-se em ramos cranial e caudal, distribuindose pelo reto, cloaca e bolsa cloacal. Evidenciaram-se anastomoses entre ramos da artéria mesentérica cranial e entre ramos desta e ramos das artérias mesentérica caudal e celíaca. No que diz respeito à morfologia das aves, ainda que toda a classe apresente as menores variações quanto a forma, quando comparada a muitas ordens de peixes, anfíbios, répteis e até mesmo de mamíferos 5 , fatores como o cruzamento e a seleção podem assumir fundamental importância no aumento das variações anatômicas 6 . Desta forma, a presente investigação científica teve como objetivo fornecer informações pertinentes às origens, ramificações e distribuições das artérias mesentéricas cranial e caudal em aves da linhagem Cobb 500, oferecendo ainda subsídios que possam contribuir para o conhecimento destes aspectos morfológicos em Gallus gallus e nas demais espécies de aves. The Tucanuçu also known as Tucano toco (Ramphastos toco albogularis-Cabanis, 1862) is a specie of the Piciform Order, Family Ramphastidae that represent one of the symbols of tropical forests. Descriptive studies of its Anatomy are scarce. The Circulatory System is, without a doubt, of fundamental importance for the survival and well being of any animal. Its study is crucial for the knowledge of the individual's biology, especially in the case of wild birds where morphological studies are rare, although important, not only for the knowledge of the biology of the same, but, being able to contribute greatly, for the implantation of conservation and preservation programs for the species and the ecosystem itself. Thus, in the present study, the study and description of the arteries that vascularize most of the Tucanuçu alimentary canal are carried out. The study is divided into three articles-chapters: Cloaca blood supply and Cloacal bag; Origin and distribution of the cranial and caudal mesenteric arteries and Origin and distribution of the celiac artery. The methodology used is based on usual dissection procedures in Macroscopic Anatomy, including the injection of colored latex into the arteries, as a way of better visualizing them. Eight specimens of Tucanuçu (Rhamphastos toco albogularis-Cabanis, 1862), adults, but without defined age, from CETAS-Catalão are used. The results indicate vascular characteristics similar to those described in domestic birds and other wild birds, being almost impossible to identify a vascular pattern, so great is the variability of branches of these vessels. The results are documented in photographs, using a Cyber Shot 7.2 mp camera.
