Iron-Doped Nickel Phosphide Nanosheet Arrays: An Efficient Bifunctional Electrocatalyst for Water Splitting

Abstract: Exploring efficient and earth-abundant electrocatalysts for water splitting is crucial for various renewable energy technologies. In this work, iron (Fe)-doped nickel phosphide (NiP) nanosheet arrays supported on nickel foam (NiFeP NSAs/NF) are fabricated through a facile hydrothermal method, followed by phosphorization. The electrochemical analysis demonstrates that the NiFeP NSAs/NF electrode possesses high electrocatalytic activity for water splitting. In 1.0 M KOH, the NiFeP NSAs/NF electrode only needs ov… Show more

“…The Fe 2p spectrum (Figure d) is fitted with two spin–orbit doublets attributed to the binding energies of Fe 2p 3/2 and Fe 2p 1/2 . The first doublet at 710.4 and 724.1 eV and the second doublet at 713.5 and 726.6 eV can be identified as Fe 2+ and Fe 3+ , respectively . Notably, no peaks characteristic of FeP are observed in the Fe 2p region, implying the successfully formation of Fe‐doped (Ni 0.87 Fe 0.13 ) 2 P–Ni .…”

“…Moreover, through further comparison with some other reported Ni‐based HER electrocatalysts, Ni‐S−P NRs/NF also exhibits preferable or comparable performance in 1.0 M KOH solution. Such as NiS@Ni 2 P 2 S 6 /NF (η 10 =140 mV), porous Ni−Fe−P/NF (η 10 =142 mV), NiCo 2 S 4 NWs/NF (η 10 =210 mV), N doped Ni 3 S 2 NSs/NF (η 10 =155 mV), N doped Ni 3 S 2 /VS 2 NSs‐NF (η 10 =151 mV), MoP/Ni 2 P/NF (η 100 =191 mV), N 2 P NSAs/NF (η 10 =191 mV) and so on.…”

“…Hu and co‐workers reported a bifunctional catalyst of Ni 2 P nanoparticles with excellent electrochemical activity for OER and HER . However, it is also noted that the catalytic activity of monometallic Ni 2 P is limited to the few types of composition and structure . On the other hand, vanadium (V) is a kind of rich element in the earth‘s crust .…”
