Precision agriculture is now essential in today’s world, especially for countries with limited water resources, fertile land, and enormous population. Smart irrigation systems can help countries efficiently utilize fresh water and use the excess water for barren lands. Smart water management platform (SWAMP) is an IoT-based smart irrigation project designed for efficient freshwater utilization in agriculture. The primary aim of SWAMP is to auto manage water reserves, distribution, and consumption of various levels, avoid over-irrigation and under-irrigation problems, and auto manage time to maximize production. This research proposed an energy-efficient water management platform (EEWMP), an improved version of SWAMP. EEWMP is an IoT-based smart irrigation system that uses field-deployed sensors, sinks, fusion centres, and open-source clouds. Both models’ performance is evaluated in energy consumption, network stability period, packet sent to destination, and packet delivery ratio. The experimental results show that EEWMP consumes 30% less energy and increases network stability twice than SWAMP. EEWMP can be used in different irrigation models such as drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, surface irrigation, and lateral move irrigation with subtle alterations. Moreover, it can also be used in small farms of third-world countries with their existing communication infrastructures such as 2G or 3G.

One-third of our country's income is derived from agriculture. Due to the presence of many fertile lands and deltas, India has always been one of the largest producers of food. Agriculture is the means of living for people in India. Due to many constraints, the country's revenue from agriculture is always getting decreased. These barriers include sudden rain, fire damage, and loss of crops by animals, lack of capital and proper irrigation facilities and so on. One step resolution for this problem is to innovate traditional farming with some modern technologies especially in the forest areas. Automation in agriculture helps in solving the problems in farming. Internet of Things (IoT)’s intervention in farming can give a solution so that it reduces the problems faced by farmers in our country. IoT is a framework that deals with communication between things and these things include sensors, actuators and other digital machines. The proposed system consists of smoke sensor, soil moisture sensor and ultrasonic sensor, to understand events or changes in the environment such as soil moisture level, environmental conditions like presence of fire and the presence of animals in agricultural areas and send this information for further processing. Hence proper water pumping based on the soil moisture level, sprinkling of water to control the fire damage, activation of control mechanism to prevent the entry of animals into the fields, spraying of pesticides to control pests can be done. Therefore, this system mitigates the losses in agriculture in a better way and assures that this can contribute better yields, particularly near forest areas as the possibility of destruction by animals is high.

Abstrak Salah satu jenis system informasi yang saat ini mengalami perkembangan pesat adalah RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). Sistem tersebut digunakan memiki fleksibilitas yang tinggi, mudah digunakan, serta sangat sesuai pada aktivitas yang memerlukan otomatisasi. Sisem ini juga telah digunakan untuk menggantikan fungsi sistem Barcode yang dianggap kurang fleksibel terutama dalam hal tracerability. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menggali potensi penerapan RFID dalam bidang pertanian, baik dalam perkembangan teknologi, aplikasi apa saja yang dapat digunakan dengan RFID, kendala serta Prospeknya. Hal tersebut guna membantu dalam mengarahkan sector pertanian sesuai dengan revolusi 4.0, agar pertanian di daerah kecil utamanya, mampu bersaing di globalisasi. Adapun metoda yang digunakan adalah dengan review terhadap Jurnal penelitian sehubungan dengan RFID, dan aplikasinya di Dunia Pertanian. Dari 100 Jurnal yang diunduh, hanya sekitar 53 Jurnal yang sejalan dengan tujuan review ini. Adapun sumber JUrnal adalah. Google Scholar, World Web of Science (WWS), Science Direct dan jurnal open access lainnya. Adapun sebagian besar penelitian diperoleh melalui metode pencarian Kata kunci: Teknologi RFID, Aplikasi RFID, masalah RFID, RFID di bidang pertanian, Teknologi RFID.
