Ionizing radiation induced degradation of poly (2-methoxy-5-(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy) -1,4-phenylene vinylene) in solution

Abstract: In this paper we investigate the causes of the chromatic alteration observed in chloroform solutions of poly (2-methoxy-5-(2 0 -ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene) (MEH-PPV) after gamma ray irradiation. Structural and chemical changes were analyzed by gel permeation chromatography, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance techniques and complemented by electronic structure calculations. The results indicate chlorine incorporation in the polymer structure and main chain… Show more

“…In general, these indices describe how the frontier orbitals are modified when the number of electrons is changed and are employed to understand and predict the reactivity of molecules and polymers [14][15][16] . According to the type of reaction, three distinct CAFIs are defined.…”

“…In the literature, it is shown that radiative damage [20] and electrical stress [14] enhances the MC. This would suggest traps created through structural changes or ionization [46] are at the origin of the MC. Finally, we also suggested that an exciton or trion can form on an intrinsic trap, but not on F4TCNQ.…”
