Substituted pyrans (4H‐Chromenes) are the most significant structural scaffolds in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. They are found in an array of natural products, medicines, and phytochemical compounds, bearing an explicit of pharmacological activities. The structural importance of substituted pyrans has elicited a huge upsurge in the field of synthesis and biology. Different synthetic approaches of 4H‐chromene scaffolds have been discussed systematically to emphasize their significance in the scientific world. The present article summarizes the different synthetic strategies of substituted pyran derivatives via acid‐base catalysis, ionic liquids, nanomaterials, deep eutectic solvents, bio‐based, visible light, metal catalyzed, and so forth developed in the last decade. Moreover, this article will definitely contribute to the scientific world for developing synthetically and biologically important pyran analogs.

Beryllium is a very important strategic metal and has been applied in high-tech industries. Since the low beryllium content in minerals, the enrichment technique is a vital aspect of beryllium smelting. In this study, we present a novel protic ionic liquid, 4-Hydroxymethyl-5-methylimidazolium p-Chlorobenzoate ([Hymim][pCb]), as an efficient and environmentally friendly extraction solvent for beryllium preconcentration in aqueous solution. Our research demonstrates that Be II can be captured rapidly with high efficiency, reaching nearly 99.6% within 2 h. By controlling the initial metal concentration and pH condition, we could achieve the selective extraction of beryllium in the presence of other heavy metal ions. Our findings also shed new light on the extraction mechanism established by the material characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) calculation, revealing that metal ions disrupt the proton transfer between the cation and anion in the ionic liquid, leading to metal chelation with the cation and subsequent translation of the anion into an aqueous solution. Overall, our research presents a novel method for the enrichment of beryllium in the smelting process while also expanding the scope of protic ionic liquid applications. The efficient and selective extraction of beryllium demonstrated in this study holds great promise for the advancement of beryllium-related industries.

This study reports synthesizing and characterizing imidazolium‐based ionic liquids (ILs) using substituted benzoates as anions. Thermal stability of ILs described using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). One inherent property of ILs is aggregates or cluster formation due to supramolecular interactions. The supramolecular interaction in synthesized ILs has been studied through Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS). The potential of ILs as organic catalysts is investigated in multicomponent reaction (MCR) using urea, malononitrile, and different aromatic aldehydes to prepare phenyl pyrimidines derivatives. The results demonstrate that catalysis with ILs effectively reduces reaction time and enhances yield. ILs entities are hypothesized to form new assemblies with reactive moieties of reactants through supramolecular interactions. The ILs can be reused and recycled.
