Ion exchange synthesis of PAN/Ag3PO4core–shell nanofibers with enhanced photocatalytic properties

Abstract: PAN/Ag 3 PO 4 core-shell hetero-nanofibers have been fabricated for the first time by combining electrospinning technology with ion exchange reaction, which exhibit much higher visible light driven photocatalytic activities for the degradation of organic contaminants than pure Ag 3 PO 4 nanoparticles.One-dimensional (1D) nanostructures have received extensive attention owing to their potential applications in photoconductors, electron eld emitters, and solar cells in the past decade. 1-4 Recently, the rationa… Show more

“…In 16 each experiment, 25 mg of photocatalyst was added to a 50 mL 2,4-DCP solution 17 ataninitial concentration of 20 mg/L. Prior to illumination, the solution was18 magnetically stirred in the dark for 30 min to reachthe adsorption-desorption 19 equilibrium of2,4-DCPon the surface of thephotocatalyst. Then, the solution was 20 exposed to Xe lamp irradiation.…”

“…PAN nanofiber shows the characteristic absorption peaks of the nitrile group at around 2241 cm -1 , besides, a series of characteristic bands in the regions 2930 cm -1 , 1451 cm -1 , 1380-1360 cm -1 , and 1290-1260 cm -1 are ascribed to the vibrations of different modes in methylene group of PAN. The characteristic absorption band of CO 3 2− could be observed at 705 cm -1 , indicating the formation of the Ag 2 CO 3 on the PAN/Ag 2 CO 3 nanofiber [19,30].…”

“…Furthermore, PAN-based electrospun nanofiber has been used as reusable catalyst due to its hydrophobicity, low density, and high environmental stability properties [19]. In the PAN/Ag 2 CO 3 composite nanofiber, PAN act as a polymer template and Ag 2 CO 3 nanoparticles have been exposed completely and densely on the fiber surface without agglomeration, thus they could share the photo-excited electrons and achieve novel collective photocatalytic and antibacterial properties.…”

“…For this scenario, electrospinning, a simple and versatile technique, has been investigated for the fabrication of organic-inorganic nanofibers having prominent features such as high specific surface area and large aspect ratio. Numerous polymer nanofibers have been fabricated by the electrospinning technique, but polyacrylonitrile (PAN) has been frequently used as reusable catalyst due to its hydrophobicity, low density, and high environmental stability properties [36,37].…”
