Photocatalytic degradation and antibacterial investigation of nano synthesized Ag3VO4particles @PAN nanofibers

Abstract: Well-dispersed Ag 3 VO 4 nanoparticles @polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers were synthesized by an easily controlled, template-free method as a photo-catalyst for the degradation of methylene blue. Their structural, optical, and photocatalytic properties have been studied by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy equipped with rapid energy dispersive analysis of X-ray, photoluminescence, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The characterization procedur… Show more

“…It is reported that Ag 3 VO 4 nanoparticles could bind to the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of the microorganisms, and then disturb their metabolism processes, especially cell division, which ultimately results in cell damage or death. 27 Moreover, Ag 3 VO 4 could generate electron-pair holes and react with O 2 or OH -to make active oxygen species formation, which interact with cell membranes, DNA, and cellular proteins, giving rise to cell death. 53 …”

“…26 It is reported that mixed metal oxides containing two or more metals were effective catalysts and catalytic supports for a wide variety of organic reactions. 27,28 Taking advantage of the high specific surface area of nanostructures, TiO 2 and other metal oxides have been utilized to enhance dye degradation adsorption purpose. 29,30 For example, Zhou et al 31 successfully prepared a nanoTiO 2 /chitosan/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (nano-TiO 2 / CS/PNIPAAm) composite hydrogel.…”

“…While photocatalytic activity investigation of synthesized hybrid graphene-Pt/TiO 2 nanostructure was evaluated under natural environment on sunny day at average ambient temperature and mean daily global solar radiation, of about 22–25 °C and 374.9 mWh/cm 2 , respectively in January between 12:00 p.m. to 02:00 p.m. by degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye solution. The procedure used for photocatalytic investigation of synthesized hybrid graphene-Pt/TiO 2 nanostructure in this study has followed according to our previous studies 4 6 .…”
