Iodine-125 seeds insertion with trans-arterial chemical infusion for advanced lung cancer: a meta-analysis

Abstract: Purpose: Local treatments, including iodine-125 ( 125 I) seeds insertion (ISI) and trans-arterial chemical infusion (TAI), were used for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) cases. The present meta-analysis investigated the clinical efficacy of combined TAI and ISI for advanced lung cancer (LC).Material and methods: This meta-analysis was performed according to preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement. Relevant studies were se… Show more

“…Recent years, for medically unresectable tumors, as well as metastatic and recurrent lesion of NSCLC, 125I-SI was an effective and safe strategy 15 . 125I-SI could emit a continuous low-dose-rate of radiation to kill tumor cells in the target area directly over an extended period of time while preserving the surrounding vital organ and normal tissues 16,17 .…”

“…Here, postoperative chemotherapy was identi ed as a signi cant predictor of prolonged patient OS. Chemotherapy can enhance 125 I seed brachytherapy-related treatment e cacy [25], while also facilitating the more effective management of lymph node and distant metastatic lesions.…”

“…In a recent meta-analysis of 8 studies, ISI was combined with transarterial chemical infusion (TCI) for advanced NSCLC or small-cell lung cancer. 79 The pooled complete response rate, treatment success rate, disease control rate, 1-year survival, OS in the ISI combined with TCI group (377 patients) was significantly greater (all Ps < .001) than TCI alone (397 patients). The pooled 2-year survival rate ( P = .08) and myelosuppression rates ( P = .29) were comparable between the 2 groups.…”
