IoB-DTN: A lightweight DTN protocol for mobile IoT applications to smart bike sharing systems

Abstract: Information and communication are key to the intelligent city of tomorrow. Many technologies have been designed to connect smart devices to the Internet. In particular, public transport systems have been used to collect data from mobile devices. Public bike sharing systems have been introduced as part of the urban transportation system and could be used as the support of a mobile sensor network. In this paper, we introduce the "Internet of Bikes" IoB-DTN protocol which applies Delay/Disruption Tolerant Network… Show more

“…Most of these researches are dedicated to targeted sensors or applications. We proposed in [20], the IoB-DTN (Internet of Bikes) routing protocol which applies the DTN paradigm to the IoT applications running on urban bike sharing system based sensor network. It is designed to collect data from mobile network IoT devices.…”

“…The communication mechanism is opportunistic and it is based on converge cast algorithm. In previous work [20], we proposed the "Internet of Bikes-Delay Tolerant Networking" (IoB-DTN) routing protocol which applies DTN paradigm to the IoT applications running on urban bike sharing system based sensor network. It is designed for being applied to mobile network IoT devices running a data collection application.…”

“…Data collection from sensors is widely used today. However, all the data are focused on sharing system development [2][3][4], sensor network implementation [5,6], safety [7], smart city development [8,9] or intelligent control implementation [10][11][12]. A series of great results are published considering the positioning method of the sensor system, structural health monitoring, and intelligent vehicle [13][14][15][16][17].…”
