This study aimed to investigate the leisure involvement level of individuals 40 years and over according to various variables. The study sample consisted of 106 volunteers aged 40 years and over in Hendek district of Sakarya city. As a data collection tool "leisure involvement scale" which developed by Kyle et al. (2007) and adapted to Turkish by Gürbüz et al. (2015), and personal information form were used. SPSS statistic program was used to analyze the data. The histograms, Skewness, and Kurtosis values (between -1 and +1) were checked to ensure normal distribution of the data. Therefore, parametric tests, independent sample t tests, and one-way ANOVA tests were used. To determine the significant differences between the groups, the Tukey test used. According to the findings of the study, between the gender variable and social relationship level, between the long-term accommodation place variable and attractiveness, between giving the importance and social relationship, between daily leisure time and giving importance and social relationship level, difficulty in finding free time and attractiveness, between the variables giving importance, social relationship and identification and doing sport statistically meaningful result found with the attractiveness dimension. PurposeThis study aims to address customer focus as an important component of total quality management (TQM) and explore the key drivers of member satisfaction in tennis clubs via a novel theory-based member satisfaction index (MSI) model with high explanatory and predictive power. Furthermore, the study aims to investigate the relationship between satisfaction and behavioral intentions (willingness to stay; WTS) with consideration of the mediating effect of identification with the club.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses variance-based partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to estimate the MSI model, which was tested in a leading tennis club in Germany (n = 185).FindingsThe results reveal that club atmosphere, club facilities and the price/quality ratio of the membership fee are the most important drivers of member satisfaction in tennis clubs. Member satisfaction has a large influence on the WTS of tennis club members. Identification with the club, when included as a mediator in the model, increases the variance explained in WTS considerably.Research limitations/implicationsThe small sample limits the generalizability of findings, and further research is recommended.Practical implicationsThe MSI model is a useful benchmark tool for club managers who want to quantify the satisfaction and WTS of their club members. In addition, because of the integrated formative measurement models, the PLS-SEM results show which indicators can be used to positively impact satisfaction with each of the service quality dimensions, overall member satisfaction and WTS. The most important of these results are discussed in an importance-performance map analysis.Originality/valueThe MSI model is a multi-attribute index model through which members' evaluations of various dimensions of service and value are derived through multivariable linear function with each dimension weighted according to its importance in one holistic model. The model shows the strong impact of satisfaction on WTS of sports club members and reveals that findings of previous research on the relationship between fan and spectator identification and loyalty are transferable to sports club members. The MSI represents a new contribution to the literature; it was applied here to tennis clubs but is also suitable for application to other sports clubs.

Gelişen teknoloji sayesinde toplum yaşamı içerisinde çalışma saatleri kısalarak bireylerin boş zamanlarında artış meydana gelmiştir. Bu artış ile birlikte bireyler işten arta kalan boş zamanlarını değerlendirme arayışı içine girmişlerdir. Boş zamanlarında katılacakları etkinlikler bireyden bireye farklılık göstermektedir. Dolayısıyla bu durum ilgilenim konusunun önemine vurgu yapmaktadır. Özellikle yoğun rekabet ortamı içerisindeki fitness sektöründe, fitness merkezlerinin ayakta kalabilmesi için müşterilerin bireysel ilgilenim profillerini belirlemek oldukça önemli bir hal almaktadır. Çünkü ilgilenim, oluşturulmak istenen sadakatin öncüllerinden biri olarak değerlendirilebilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı a) Boş zaman ilgilenim faktörlerini ortaya çıkarmak, b) Boş zaman ilgilenimi ve fitness merkezine yönelik sadakat arasındaki ilişkiyi, c) Boş zaman ilgilenimi ve fitness merkezine yönelik tatmin arasındaki ilişkiyi, d) Fitness merkezine yönelik tatmin ve fitness merkezine yönelik sadakat arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Araştırma, Eskişehir ili sınırları içerisinden seçilen Sportif Club, Qualitasspa, Fitlife, Sablon Wellness Club ve Esjim fitness merkezlerindeki 658 üye ile gerçekleşmiştir. Çalışmada faktör analizi sonucunda fitness merkezi üyelerinin boş zaman ilgilenimini etkileyen altı faktör ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu faktörler çalışan davranışı, resepsiyon hizmetleri, temizlik/hijyen, ödeme ve teşvik, sağlık ve fitness ve kullanıma hazırlık olarak isimlendirilmiştir. Yapılan regresyon analizi sonucunda ödeme ve teşvik (β= 0412; p< 0,01) faktörü fitness merkezine yönelik tatmin ve sadakati üzerinde en güçlü etkiye sahiptir. Bunun yanında temizlik/hijyen ile sağlık ve fitness faktörlerinin fitness merkezine yönelik sadakat üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığı ifade edilebilir.
