Investigations on the Wound Healing Potential of Tilapia Piscidin (TP)2-5 and TP2-6

Abstract: Wound healing is a highly orchestrated process involving many cell types, such as keratinocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells. This study aimed to evaluate the potential application of synthetic peptides derived from tilapia piscidin (TP)2, TP2-5 and TP2-6 in skin wound healing. The treatment of HaCaT keratinocytes with TP2-5 and TP2-6 did not cause cytotoxicity, but did enhance cell proliferation and migration, which could be attributed to the activation of epidermal growth factor receptor signaling. “…Similarly, a prospective study examining the use of synthetic peptides obtained from tilapia piscidin in wound healing of the skin ((TP2, TP2-5, and TP2-6) found favorable effects in cell proliferation when treated with HaCaT keratinocytes. It was also noted the samples displayed pro-angiogenic properties, accelerating wound healing when instilled topically in wounds of mice [21] .…”

“…The use of acellular fish skin with PRGF in full-thickness skin wounds in a rat showed improved and adequate healing by the 28th day postoperative. The study found some dressings yielded the formation of an epidermal layer that closely resembled skin Liu et al, [21] Taiwan Prospective cohort -Tilapia fish skin The utilization of TP2-5 and TP2-6 revealed favorable effects in cell proliferation when treated with HaCaT keratinocytes. “…In addition, when compared to commercial medicines, the NZ2114-HPC hydrogel demonstrated superior antibacterial activity, decreased inflammation, and enhanced angiogenesis, underscoring its effectiveness in treating persistent skin injuries and drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacterial infections [52]. Through a number of mechanisms, it has been established that TP2-5 and TP2-6 are effective in wound healing [53]. These chemicals promote collagen formation and KGF expression in fibroblasts, enhance keratinocyte and fibroblast migration and proliferation, and promote angiogenesis and endothelial cell migration [53].…”

“…Tilapia is a kind of freshwater and saltwater fish promoted by the FAO for aquaculture all around the world, and the production of tilapia is increasing year after year [ 10 ]. Marine tilapia collagens have also received significant attention in recent years [ 11 , 12 , 13 ]. However, marine collagen, without specific shape, structure, or function, cannot be directly applied.…”
