“…However, the results from Dunand and Mohr (2010 ), Lou and Huh (2013b ), Roth and Mohr (2016 ) suggest that the application of a notched tension specimen in a hybrid approach to calibrate fracture in plane strain will likely lead to inaccurate fracture predictions in bending dominated processes such as the roll forming process. Wang et al (2016 ) further revealed shear deformation in the critical fracture regions of roll formed samples which is in accordance with previous observations which suggest that, depending on the process design, deformation in roll forming can be influenced by shear ( Halmos, 2006 ). This shows the need to understand the influence of shear (and hence the Lode parameter) on fracture in roll forming.…”

“…The predominant deformation mode in roll forming is that of bending and failure is usually associated with fracture on the outer tensile surface of the longitudinal bends. Wang et al's study showed that in roll forming, in addition to bending, material deforms in complex stress states that include shear ( Wang et al, 2016 ). Given that the conventional Forming Limit Diagram (FLD) is limited to membrane strains ( Keeler, 1961;Marciniak et al, 2002 ) it is not suitable to determine material failure in processes such as roll forming and bending where through-thickness and curvature effects influence forming and fracture limits and where the stress states are complex ( Hora et al, 2016 ).…”

“…They suggested that the in-plane strain has to be calibrated from the bending test to obtain higher model accuracy than the notched sample test. Similarly, Haibo Wang et al [ 22 ] adopted the cold roll forming process to examine the fracture mechanism. The damage behavior of the DP980 steel was investigated by microstructure observation and macro mechanics analysis, and the FE model.…”

“…on void closure index of 316L stainless steel. Nevertheless, in the case of AHSS, there are scarce publications related to roll forming process by FEM simulations, such as the study done by Li et al [18] where the material and mechanical properties of a cold-rolled DP980 steel were investigated through thermal simulation experiments using ABAQUS software; or, the work realized by Wang et al [19] in which the fracture behavior of a DP980 steel is studied during roll forming processes by ABAQUS software.…”
