Scavenging is becoming one of the determinants of two-stroke engine performance. Efficiency of U-type loop scavenging of two-stroke diesel engine with two poppet valves is generally unsatisfactory due to scavenging short-circuiting and large amount of residual burned gas in cylinder, and it is hard to generate the swirl that facilitates fuel spray mixing and combustion. In order to deal with the above issues, a swirl-loop scavenging configuration is proposed to involve swirl and depress short-circuiting. To investigate swirl-loop scavenging performance, this article simulates the scavenging process by numerical method, optimizes the tracer gas method to measure and evaluate the scavenging performance, as well as analyzes the influence factors. The results demonstrate that, compared with U-type loop scavenging, the trapping efficiency and scavenging efficiency of swirl-loop scavenging respectively increase by 8% and 10%. Change of engine speed has an impact on the delivery ratio and trapping efficiency but load does not. Both intake and exhaust valve timings affect scavenging performance and short-circuiting to a large extent. In addition, the accuracy of tracer gas method in measurement of scavenging performance parameters is improved, and the scavenging efficiency deviation between simulation and experiment is decreased from 6% to 2%.

Bio-based polyurethane foam, a new green environmental material, has attracted more and more attention of people. In this study, the tung oleic acid-based polyurethane (TOPUF) had been prepared using one-step method. Characterization of the polyurethane foams were carried out by SEM and Fourier transform infrared. The cell morphology, acoustic, and mechanical performance of TOPUF with different contents of tung oleic acid-based polyols (TOAP) were studied and compared with that of a pure petroleum-based polyurethane foam. In addition, the effects of thickness ratio of layers on the acoustic performance of the double-layer composite polyurethane foam (DPUF) were also studied by means of theoretical model and experiment. The results illustrate that TOPUF shows a high absorption performance in the frequency range from 100 to 500 Hz and sound insulation performance in the range from 100 to 6300 Hz. The average sound absorption coefficient of TOPUF is 0.505, and the average transmission loss is 18.818 dB in this case. Furthermore, the average sound absorption coefficient and average transmission loss of DPUFs are 0.545 and 14.528 dB using multilayer structure. Overall, TOPUF has excellent acoustic properties and prodigious application prospects.

Blade tip clearance (BTC) measurement and active clearance control (ACC) are becoming crucial technologies in aero-engine health monitoring so as to improve the efficiency and reliability as well as to ensure timely maintenance. Eddy current sensor (ECS) offers an attractive option for BTC measurement due to its robustness, whereas current approaches have not considered two issues sufficiently. One is that BTC affects the response time of a measurement loop, the other is that ECS signal decays with increasing speed. This paper proposes a speed adjustment model (SAM) to deal with these issues in detail. SAM is trained using a nonlinear regression method from a dynamic training data set obtained by an experiment. The Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) algorithm is used to estimate SAM characteristic parameters. The quantitative relationship between the response time of ECS measurement loop and BTC, as well as the output signal and speed are obtained. A BTC measurement method (BTCMM) based on the SAM is proposed and a geometric constraint equation is constructed to assess the accuracy of BTC measurement. Experiment on a real-time BTC measurement during the running process for a micro turbojet engine is conducted to validate the BTCMM. It is desirable and significative to effectively improve BTC measurement accuracy and expand the range of applicable engine speed.
