Investigation on Circadian Action and Color Quality in Laser-Based Illuminant for General Lighting and Display

Abstract: In this work, the genetic algorithm is employed to optimize both circadian action factor (CAF) and color quality of laser-based illuminants (LBIs) with three, four, and five spectral bands to disclose its possible use in two common white lighting applications, i.e. bedroom lighting and office lighting. Comparing all LBIs at a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3000 K and a color rendering index of 80, the CAF of four-band LBIs reaches a minimum of 0.238 and maintains at a possibly highest luminous efficacy … Show more

“…Compared to previous spectral optimisation studies [6,58,[60][61][62][63]100,101,[115][116][117][118], this work provides at the authors' best knowledge one of the most comprehensive multichannel LED datasets for metamer spectra. More advanced analyses between additional colour quality metrics are possible with the optimised spectra, which we did not fully exploit.…”

“…To improve the CRI of pc-LBI, the spectral power distribution of emission spectrum from pc-LBI and red LDs is considered. We assumed that the peak wavelength and FWHM of blue LDs and red LDs are constant [37,38]. So, the spectral power distribution of emissive pc-LBI will be linearly combined with the spectral power distribution of red emissive parts.…”
