Investigation of TiO2 Nanoparticles Synthesized by Sol-Gel Method for Effectual Photodegradation, Oxidation and Reduction Reaction

Abstract: Metal oxide titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles were synthesized by using a simple and economical sol-gel method. The prepared nanoparticles were used to evaluate methylene blue dye degradation and as catalysts in the oxidation of benzaldehyde. The crystallite size of the titanium dioxide nanoparticle was 18.3 nm, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The spherical morphology was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the elemental composition of the nanoparticle was found by energ… Show more

“…The as-synthesized nanopowders were also investigated using XRD and the results are depicted in Figure 3 . All peaks in the experimental diffractograms indicate the presence of TiO 2 anatase phase, which has Ti −6 (octahedral) and O −3 (trigonal planer) coordination geometry [ 80 , 81 ]. The peaks detected correspond to the planes (101), (004), (200), (105), (211), (204), (116), (220), and (215) at 2θ = 25.3, 37.8, 48.0, 53.8, 54.9, 62.8, 68.9, and 75.0°, respectively.…”

“…Recently, metal oxides and their composites attracted wide attention as effective antioxidants and antidiabetic agents. Besides their low production cost and unique physicochemical properties, metal oxide nanoparticles are characterized by significant biological activity, therapeutic and theranostic potentiality, and biocompatibility [14][15][16][17][18]. Zinc oxide is one of the most investigated metal oxides as bioactive material that is characterized by its biocompatibility, nontoxicity, antidiabetic, and antioxidant properties [18][19][20][21][22].…”

“…In agricultural and environmental fields, some nanoparticles can be used alone due to their own properties [ 80 ]. Metal oxides TiO 2 have been shown to have excellent dye degradation activity and can be applied for environmental remediation [ 16 , 81 ]. Biosynthesized AuNPs modulated the accumulation of nitric oxide and induced salt stress tolerance in wheat plants [ 82 ].…”

“…Biosynthesized AuNPs modulated the accumulation of nitric oxide and induced salt stress tolerance in wheat plants [ 82 ]. Meanwhile, NPs can be directly used as nanopesticides due to their antibacterial or insecticidal properties [ 81 ]. For example, copper oxide and calcium oxide NPs can be used to control Spodoptera littoralis [ 83 ].…”
