Investigation of the effect of surface crack on low-velocity impact response in hybrid laminated composite plates

Abstract: Composite materials can be damaged in the environments in which they are used, due to the loads they are exposed to or due to different effects on the production processes. The formation processes of these damages generally develop as crack formation or progress of the existing crack. For this reason, it is very important to investigate the behavior of the crack that occurs after the dynamic loads to which the composite materials are exposed. In this study, the dynamic behaviors of hybrid laminated composites … Show more

“…[19] Some fibers are pulled out, which absorbs more energy in the process of delamination and effectively hinders the propagation of crack. [20,21] As shown in the Figure 7, the higher of the thickness of the sandwich, the impact damage is close to the circle shape. The larger of the curvature, the less number the…”

“…The magnitude of the fluctuation is linked to the type of damage. [ 46 ] Fluctuations with higher degrees are seen for the BCJs compared to the NCs filled BmCJs, showing the severity of the damage (Figure 3A). In the case of 3 J, the calculated displacements are 7.65E−4 and 6.15E−4 mm for the reference and multi‐scale nanocomposite samples, respectively.…”

“…To characterize the LVI effect in composite structures in detail, force-displacement graphs were obtained by means of kinematic equations calculating that uses force-time data. [30,[52][53][54][55] From the force-time and forcedisplacement curves, the values characterizing the significant impact such as absorbed energy, impulse force, bending stiffness, maximum contact force, and maximum displacement are calculated for the impact energy between 2.5 and 25 J. These values obtained from the force histories in basalt/epoxy CPVs subjected to different impact energy under internal pressure are presented in Table 2 for GnPs unreinforced test specimens and in Table 3 for GnPs reinforced test specimens.…”
