Investigation of the biomechanical and histopathological effects of autologous conditioned serum on healing of Achilles tendon

Abstract: ObjectiveThe aim of this study to evaluate the effects of autologous conditioned serum (ACS) on the healing of transected rat Achilles tendons via the assessment of biomechanical and histological parameters.MethodsThe study was conducted on 45 male Sprague–Dawley rats. Five rats were used as donors for ACS preparation. Animals were randomly assigned to the experimental or control group. In both groups, the Achilles tendon was cut transversally and then sutured. In the placebo control and ACS-treated groups, sa… Show more

“…Most of the collected studies included an assessment of the tendons' histopathology based on the classical Bonar score with four variables [1,16,34,36,[38][39][40][41][42][43][44][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53]. However, a few authors aimed to modify the classical assumptions of the scoring system in order to improve the diagnostics and microscopic evaluation.…”

“…[1] Rupture of this tendon generally occurs in males aged between 30 and 50 years during workouts, and its incidence is approximately 18/10,000 individuals. [2,3] Rupture of the Achilles tendon can be treated through conservative methods. [4] One of the most controversial topics on tendon healing is undoubtedly related to Achilles tendon rupture.…”
